GLP-1 medications in the Philippines are available through private prescription. There is no government subsidy program for these medications, so costs are paid out of pocket. The question is where to get a prescription and what it will cost you.

All major GLP-1 medications are registered with the FDA Philippines. Getting access is not the obstacle. Cost is.

How the Philippines System Works for GLP-1 Medications

For type 2 diabetes

GLP-1 medications are not on the standard PhilHealth formulary. In practice, even T2DM patients pay out of pocket for GLP-1s at most hospitals and pharmacies. Victoza has limited PhilHealth coverage in some accredited hospitals for confirmed T2DM cases, but it is not guaranteed. Confirm directly with your prescriber and PhilHealth benefit coordinator before counting on it.

For weight management

All GLP-1 prescriptions for weight management in the Philippines are private, full stop. No government subsidy exists for this indication.

Supply note: Ozempic and Wegovy supply was constrained in 2023-2024 due to global shortages. As of 2026, supply has largely stabilized, but specific dose strengths can still vary by location. Call your pharmacy ahead of time before making the trip.

Ozempic (semaglutide) is registered with the FDA Philippines and available at major hospital pharmacies and some retail chains.

  • Major hospital pharmacies: Philippine General Hospital (PGH), Makati Medical Center, St. Luke's Medical Center, Asian Hospital, The Medical City
  • Retail chains: Watsons and Mercury Drug at select locations, with availability varying by branch
  • Private monthly cost: approximately ₱8,000-14,000 depending on dose and pharmacy

Practical tip: hospital pharmacies tend to have more consistent Ozempic stock than retail chains. If you are in Metro Manila, calling St. Luke's or Asian Hospital directly before your first pickup can save you a wasted trip.

Mounjaro in the Philippines

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is registered with the FDA Philippines and available via private prescription. It is not on any subsidised formulary.

Private monthly cost: approximately ₱12,000-18,000 depending on dose and pharmacy.

Mounjaro's dual GIP/GLP-1 mechanism has made it popular in private weight management clinics in Metro Manila. Several clinics offer Mounjaro-based monthly programmes that bundle the initial consultation, prescription renewal, and medication together. If you would rather not deal with the hospital each month, that structure is worth looking into.

Wegovy for Weight Management in the Philippines

Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg) is registered with the FDA Philippines for chronic weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related comorbidity. Private prescription only.

Private monthly cost: approximately ₱10,000-16,000 depending on dose.

Wegovy and Ozempic use the same molecule: semaglutide. Wegovy is the higher-dose formulation specifically approved for weight loss. If your prescriber is recommending one over the other, ask them to explain the dose difference and why it fits your situation.

From the community: Mounjaro is often easier to get in the Philippines than Wegovy right now. Both work well, but if you are having trouble finding Wegovy at your usual pharmacy, most weight management clinics can get you Mounjaro within a few days.

How to Get a GLP-1 Prescription in the Philippines

  1. Book with an internist, endocrinologist, or weight management specialist. All major hospitals in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao have them.
  2. Telehealth platforms also work: KonsultaMD, HealthNow, and Doctor Anywhere PH all offer GLP-1 consultations without a hospital visit.
  3. Be ready to discuss your BMI, weight history, and any related conditions such as T2DM, hypertension, or dyslipidaemia.
  4. If you are a candidate, the prescriber issues a private prescription that day.
  5. Pick up from your hospital pharmacy or a major retail pharmacy, including Watsons, Mercury Drug, or Generika.

Some private clinics in Metro Manila offer all-inclusive monthly plans covering consultation, prescription renewal, and medication delivered to your address. If you want a managed protocol without the monthly hospital trip, that is a genuinely convenient option.
